TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE  • Regulation

1. Subject

On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of Istituto Marangoni, a new edition of the contest calls for students all around the world and offers the opportunity to win scholarships consisting of a 50% reduction on the tuition fee for its Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes starting in February 2021 (Milano School of Fashion, Milano School of Design, Firenze, London, Paris), in March 2021 (Shanghai Training Centre) and August 2021 (Mumbai School).  
 

2. Project Brief

In order to participate in the contest, candidates are asked to produce a special project, focused on sustainability in the fields of Fashion, Design or Art. The aim of the project is to highlight how one of these three areas could create a new harmonious relationship with the environment and people in a future world. The project can be developed in different formats: video animations, PowerPoint presentations, frames of prototypes enriched by music or voice-over, slideshow of images, the evolution of their idea in stop-motion or even a simple video story of the candidate. Moreover, together with the project, candidates need to upload a video of up to a maximum of 60 seconds, in which they speak about themselves and their personal project. Candidates should present themselves, describe their journey (nationality, studies undertaken, experiences) and introduce their application by explaining why they would like to participate, why this specific contest could change their lives and the reason why they should be chosen. Participants are free to decide how to concentrate in 60 seconds their wish to take part in the celebrations for the 85th anniversary of Istituto Marangoni.

3. How to participate

Participation in the call is free: each candidate can submit only one application in a designated School.

Candidates will receive a confirmation e-mail for the application submitted.

If you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact the above email address no later than 24 hours after submission of the application.

In order to participate in the contest, applicants are requested to upload a list of documents, according to their course of interest, in addition to the project itself.

Whether candidates have more than 1 file per the type of document, compressed file (.zip or .rar) can be uploaded.

Maximum file size per upload is set to 2 MB.

Maximum size allowed for the upload of the Special Project is 10MB.

 

One Year Intensive Courses (Milano School of Fashion, Milano School of Design, Firenze and Paris) 

Participants who wish to apply for a One Year Intensive course are requested to upload in a single .zip or .rar folder:

1) Special Project comprising:

• A personal project in the form of a digital document including the research output and its rationale, goals and objectives or a portfolio of work.

• Personal storytelling of the candidate through an up to a maximum 60-seconds video.

2) Copy of High School Diploma: if you haven’t graduated from high school yet, you can upload a certificate of enrolment confirming that you are attending your final year;

3) Copy of High School Grades Certificate;

4) Passport Scan;

5) Signed Personal Statement (Letter of motivation): we suggest you explain why you wish to participate in the contest, how would you develop your career in the coming years, what are your personal goals, etc. (about 100 words).

Three-Year Courses (Milano School of Fashion, Milano School of Design, Firenze, London and Paris) & Undergraduate Progression Programmes (Shanghai Training Centre and Mumbai School)

Participants who wish to apply for a Three-year course / an Undergraduate Progression Programme are requested to upload in a single .zip or .rar folder:

 

1) Special Project comprising:

• A personal project in the form of a digital document including the research output and its rationale, goals and objectives or a portfolio of work.

• Personal storytelling of the candidate through an up to a maximum 60-seconds video.

2) Copy of High School Diploma: if you haven’t graduated from high school yet, you can upload a certificate of enrolment confirming that you are attending your final year;

3) Copy of High School Grades Certificate;

4) Passport Scan / ID;

5) Signed Personal Statement (Letter of motivation): we suggest you explain why you wish to participate in the contest, how would you develop your career in the coming years, what are your personal goals, etc. (about 100 words).

6) Language Certificate (only for validated programmes):

 

• For Manchester Met validated courses in London and Paris: non-native English speakers need to provide a copy of the official English Language Certificate. The English language test score should be at least upper B2 on the CEFR level - i.e. IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no modules below 5.5 (for BA (Hons) courses taught in the Schools of London and Paris). The minimum English language requirements are subject to change and can be checked on https://www2.mmu.ac.uk/international/courses/english-language-requirements/

• For AFAM validated courses in Milano and Firenze: non-English or Italian native speakers need to provide a certificate of language skills, level B1 of CEFR with specific requirements (e.g. IELTS 5.0 without elements below 4.5).

 

Semesters Postgraduate (Milano School of Design and Firenze School)

Participants who wish to apply for a Postgraduate Semester course are requested to upload in a single .zip or .rar folder:

1) Special Project comprising:

• A personal project in the form of a digital document including: the research output and its rationale, goals and objectives or a portfolio of work.

• Personal storytelling of the candidate through an up to a maximum 60-seconds video.

2) Diploma: Copy of a recognised and field-related university undergraduate degree;

3) Copy of University Transcript; 

4) Passport Scan;

5) Signed Personal Statement (Letter of motivation): we suggest you explain why you wish to participate in the contest, how would you develop your career in the coming years, what are your personal goals, etc. (about 100 words).

6) Recommendation Letter: recommendation letter from previous tutor or employer;

7) Curriculum Vitae.
 

Master’s Courses (Milano School of Fashion, Milano School of Design, Firenze, London and Paris)* and Postgraduate Programmes (Shanghai Training Centre and Mumbai School)

Participants who wish to apply for a Master’s / Postgraduate course are requested to upload in a single .zip or .rar folder:

1) Special Project comprising:

• A personal project in the form of a digital document including the research output and its rationale, goals and objectives or a portfolio of work.

• Personal storytelling of the candidate through an up to a maximum 60-seconds video.

2) Copy of University Degree: if you haven’t received your Degree, yet, you can upload a certificate on enrolment confirming you are about to graduate;**

3) Copy of University Transcript;** 

4) Passport Scan;

5) Signed Personal Statement (Letter of motivation): we suggest you explain why you wish to participate in the contest, how would you develop your career in the coming years, what are your personal goals, etc. (about 100 words).

• For Manchester Met validated courses in London and Paris: non-native English speakers need to provide a copy of the official English Language Certificate. The English language test score should be at least upper B2 on the CEFR level - i.e. IELTS overall score of 6.5 with no modules below 5.5** (for Master’s Degree Programmes and Cycle de Spécialisation, courses are in English and taught in the Schools of London and Paris). The minimum English language requirements are subject to change and can be checked here.

* Candidates for Master’s Degree Programme and Cycle de Spécialisation, taught in the Schools of London and Paris will have to meet a specific level of study (that can be checked here, indicating country of education).

** For MMET validated courses in London and Paris: when not in English, an official English translation must be provided. 

 

4. Timeline and Deadlines

  • 20th November, 2020 > deadline to submit applications.
  • By 4th December, 2020 > Committee meeting of IM Academic staff and Vogue representatives for the selection of the best projects.
  • By 14th December, 2020 > Scholarship results will be communicated to winners.

5. Jury and evaluation criteria

Projects will be evaluated by a specialised jury (hereby called the “Jury”) and ranked on the basis of the following criteria:
·      Coherence of objective;
·      Level of Innovation;
·      Project feasibility and aesthetic approach;
·      Overall quality;
·      Ability to synthesize information and clarity of the project.
A maximum of 14 winners (two for each School – one for an Undergraduate level course and one for a Postgraduate level course) will be chosen at the incontestable discretion of the Jury.

6. Award

14 scholarships consisting in a 50% reduction on the tuition fee (enrolment fee is always due) on a pre-selected course, valid for one of the programmes offered by Istituto Marangoni at one of its campuses for the February/March/August 2021 intakes.

7. Results and publication

At the end of the selection made by the Jury, the winners of the call shall be informed by e-mail and by a phone call.

The selected participant for the scholarship shall confirm his/her interest in the scholarship within 5 working days from the date of the first communication by email. After that period has been elapsed without receiving any communication from the winner, the scholarship shall be considered as expired and shall be reassigned.

The acceptance of the scholarship implies the obligation for the winner to file application for the selected course and pay the residual quote of the tuition fee.

 

8. Rights and use of the delivered outputs

The participants (hereinafter the “Participants”) agree to transfer to Istituto Marangoni* the right to use the creative projects (hereinafter the “Project”) and the products that will be, where applicable, implemented as a consequence of the project; the right to use any output delivered for the participation to the contest for ideas “New Challenges”, as well as all the materials connected to the projects and delivered, including the drawing of the Project, the sketches, the samples, the models, the tests and the video and photo materials. Istituto Marangoni reserves the right to use, publish and exploit the Projects in the form and manner deemed most appropriate: participants shall also authorize Istituto Marangoni* to use the documents received for promotional purposes and in the manner deemed most appropriate. The Participants, joining the contest for ideas “New Challenges” declare that Istituto Marangoni cannot be subject to any claim resulting from such use. In any case, the participants agree to indemnify and hold Istituto Marangoni and its successors harmless from any liability toward third parties.

  

9. Declarations and warranties 

The Participant declares and guarantees:

(i) to be the author of the Project, to own and to be fully, legitimately and autonomously entitled to grant, without limitation, all the rights granted herein, including but not limited to intellectual property rights anyhow related to the Project;

(ii) that the Project is original and shall not, directly or indirectly, infringe any third parties’ right, including copyrights and intellectual property rights;

(iii) that the Project shall not contain any obscene, violent, defamatory, blaspheme, upsetting elements and that the it shall not infringe any third party personal and patrimonial right (including moral rights, image rights, honor and/or reputation and/or confidentiality rights, copyrights, data protection, publishing and/or others rights) or any applicable law; in the event the Project contains elements and/or parts from third parties works, the Participant guarantee to have obtained in advance and/or to obtain all necessary consents, releases and/or authorizations, as well as all usage rights of the Project granted herein;
(iv) that there are no rights or agreement with any third party which shall interfere with the rights granted herein and with the full and free usage and arrangement of the Project by Istituto Marangoni and its successors.

In any case, the Participant undertakes to  indemnify and hold Istituto Marangoni and its successors harmless with respect to every demand, claim, contestation or request, whether made or brought before the courts or otherwise, by third parties related to the Project and/or to the rights granted pursuant the article 8 and/or that are inconsistent with the representations, warranties and obligations that the Participant has provided herein or by law and/or may interfere with the full and free exploitation by Istituto Marangoni and its successors of the rights granted herein..

 

10. Information on the treatment of personal data 

Personal data collected as a result of the participation to the call will be used for the following purposes: execution of the operations of the call and for the thereto related purposes: the processing of personal data will be executed using manual, electronic and telematics tools closely related to the purposes for which they were provided; they could be disseminated through websites and social networks connected to the Istituto  In case of refusal to provide the requested data in order to participate in the call, the application form will be rejected or the potential participant excluded. In case of refusal to provide the data, as indicated, in order to transfer the advertising material, there will be no consequences. Personal data collected as a result of the call participation will be registered in the Istituto Marangoni database, holder of the treatment;

People to whom the data collected as a result of the participation to the call refer to are considered the holders, pursuant to article 7 of the Legislative Decree 196/2003, of the related rights, among them, the confirmation of the existence of their personal data and their provision in an intelligible form, the cancellation, the transformation into anonymous form or blocking of data processed unlawfully, as well as the updating, rectification, integration and to oppose the treatment for any legitimate reason. By participating in the call, the participants give their consent to the aforementioned treatment of data.

 

11. Consent to the use of personal data

Participants authorise the Istituto Marangoni S.r.l. to use their personal data and their image, as well as to take videos, photos, registrations and to consign their image through third parties and with any tools, video, photo and television and the activity related to the call. They grant to the Istituto Marangoni S.r.l. the right of use the said “material” in the context of the publishing products directed by the Istituto Marangoni S.r.l. and in the context of the institutional website and social networks.

 

12. Applicable law and jurisdiction

The Italian law will govern the call and the relations between the participants. Any dispute that may arise between the promoters and the participants will be of exclusive jurisdiction of the Court of Milan.

 

13. Exemption from the ministerial validation

Pursuant to the article 6, D.P.R. 430, dated 26/10/2001, this call is not a prize competition or lottery: as a result, no ministerial authorization is needed.
