Istituto Marangoni London School of Fashion and Design registered as Istituto Marangoni Ltd (London School) at 30 Fashion Street E1 6PX (VAT number 810274857) (“Istituto Marangoni”) 

partners with DAZED 

to offer a scholarship (“Scholarship”) amounting to 50% of the tuition fee (for all three years of the course; the enrolment fee is always due) for BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Styling & Pathways, BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Design & Pathways, BA (Hons) Degree in Visual Design starting in October 2021 at the London School in the United Kingdom.

These Scholarship Competition Terms and Conditions (“Scholarship Terms”) are supplementary to the General Terms and Conditions for Students: (https://be-prod.ggeedu.it/marangoni/entities/PDFrepository/24082020_IM_London_TC_2021.pdf) (“General Terms”) and should be read carefully in conjunction with the General Terms before submitting a Scholarship application.  

By submitting a Scholarship application to Istituto Marangoni, you agree to be bound by the Scholarship Terms and General Terms.  

In particular you should carefully read and consider the termination rights at section 10 below. 

 

1. Eligibility Requirements

Applicants will be eligible for consideration for the Scholarship if they meet the following criteria.  Applicants must: 

  • be a prospective UK, EU, International Istituto Marangoni student who has applied for and met the general requirements for a qualifying BA Hons degree course (see list set out below); 
  • be liable to pay the full tuition fees applicable for your jurisdiction (for example, you are not a sponsored student); and 
  • achieve the minimum academic standards set out below.  

Qualifying courses: BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Styling & Pathways, BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Design & Pathways, BA (Hons) Degree in Visual Design starting in October 2021 at the London School in the United Kingdom

2. Application procedure

Applicants must submit a Special Project containing the following information, uploaded as one single digital document (PDF) - more than one page is accepted.

  • Your name and surname
  • The title of BA (Hons) Degree course you wish to take
  • 300-word supporting information to explain your inspiration for project theme listed below (images to be included where relevant to the argument/content)
  • A creative pitch for Dazed Media. 
  • The name or title of your project proposal

IMPORTANT: Essays/documents are to be written in English language.

 

Project theme

For BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Styling & Pathways

A creative pitch for Dazed: developed over 6 (minimum) to 10 (maximum) slides in PDF Format and including a minimum of 2 moodboards (1 atmosphere + 1 technical) illustrating the idea for an editorial submission to the platform. 

Applicants can use any kind of visual media (still/moving image, XR, illustration, collage, etc.) and any kind of theme to be developed into a contemporary visual outcome, using the language of fashion storytelling.

Dress your most exciting ideas to interpret the zeitgeist and its influence on reshaping the future.

These files must be uploaded in one single PDF.

 

BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Design & Pathways

Thinking about the future of the fashion industry and the stylistic identity of Dazed, design a creative fashion collection of 3 outfits (menswear/womenswear/genderless/accessories) that expresses your identity as a designer of the future from a personal concept or narrative. 

You must create a clear illustration of each outfit and must include a moodboard that summarizes the inspiration for the collection and 6 research pages that show where your ideas originated from and how you have developed your own original design ideas.

These files must be uploaded in one single PDF.

 

BA (Hons) Degree in Visual Design 

A creative pitch for Dazed: Inspired by the zeitgeist and Gen Z present an idea for a spread that would go into a print issue of Dazed representing the feeling of the times and its impact on youth culture through a visual narrative.

You should provide a minimum of 6 slides explaining the research and inspiration as well as a moodboard and original artwork idea. 

These files must be uploaded in one single PDF. 

Maximum size allowed for the upload of the Project is 10MB.

 

3. Additional documentation 

The following documents must also be submitted as part of the application process: 

  • Copy of High School Diploma: if you haven’t graduated from high school yet, you can upload a certificate of enrolment confirming that you are attending your final year;
  • Copy of High School Grades Certificate;
  • Passport scan;
  • Signed Personal Statement (Letter of motivation): we suggest you explain why you wish to participate in the Initiative, how would you develop your career in the coming years, what are your personal goals, etc. (about 100 words).
  • Language Certificate: non-native English speakers need to provide a copy of the official English Language Certificate. The English language test score should be at least B2 on the CEFR level - i.e. IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no modules below 5.5 (for BA (Hons) courses taught in the Schoos of London). The minimum English language requirements are subject to change and can be checked on https://www2.mmu.ac.uk/international/courses/english-language-requirements/

All sections of the application and documentation submitted must be in English. Documents that are not originally in English should be accompanied by a certified translation.

Following the upload of the required documents on the scholarship platform, students for a BA (Hons) Degree course will be required to complete a brief skill test.

No fee is payable to submit a Scholarship application.  

Applicants may only submit portfolio work that has been completed as an individual.  

Group submissions are not permitted.

4. Application deadline and other key dates

  • July 30, 2021> deadline for submission of registration and for submission of the project proposal.
  • Week of August 2, 2021> meeting of the jury composed of professionals for evaluation of applications and assignments selection of winners
  • Week of August 2, 2021> notification of the applicant selected for the Scholarship by phone, with written notification to follow.

 

5. Assessment Panel

The Assessment Panel is composed of a representative from the company that is supporting the scholarship, together with Istituto Marangoni representatives:

  • School Director of Istituto Marangoni London
  • Director of Education of Istituto Marangoni London

The Assessment Panel’s decision is final.

 

6. Evaluation criteria 

Each application will be assessed by the Assessment Panel against the following categories:

  • Consistency with the brief in the Project Themes above;
  • Innovation and excellence in execution;
  • Validity of the proposal from an aesthetic and functional point of view;
  • Synthesis and clarity of the concept;
  • Students are eligible to get 50% deduction for second and third year only in case they will achieve a minimum average grade of 60% at the end of year one and year two respectively.

 

7. Intellectual Property Rights in your Submission

In submitting a Scholarship application, you warrant that the content of your submission is your original work and has not been entirely or partially copied from any other third party work, source or material, and to your reasonable knowledge, does not infringe any copyright of any third party, save for inspiration by DAZED work. 

In the event that any aspect or part of your portfolio belongs to a third party (other than DAZED), you must credit such work appropriately and ensure that any necessary permission and/or authorisation to use and submit it as part of your application has been obtained.

If you create any intellectual property rights in your Scholarship application, the standard position is that you will own such rights, unless you and Istituto Marangoni agree otherwise.  

 

8. Value: benefits and duration

The Scholarship is conditional upon the Recipient meeting the course eligibility requirements and receiving formal acceptance from Istituto Marangoni of a place on the relevant course. 

The Assessment Panel will select one applicant for the Scholarship, with a second-place applicant placed on reserve. Scholarships are awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount. No cash alternatives are provided.

The applicant selected for the Scholarship (the “Recipient”) shall be granted a 50% discount on the cost of their tuition fee (enrolment fee is due) for all the three years of a BA (Hons) Degree course at Istituto Marangoni London.

The deduction is only applicable to the tuition fee and excludes all other charges such as enrolment fees, living costs and ancillary items required as part of the course. The Recipient shall be responsible for covering all such other costs.

The Scholarship cannot be accepted in conjunction with any other deductions provided by Istituto Marangoni.

The Scholarship is awarded for courses at the London School only and is not transferrable to any other Istituto Marangoni school or location.

The Scholarship is for courses starting in October 2021 and cannot be deferred. If you are offered the Scholarship and then choose to defer your place, the offer of the Scholarship will be withdrawn and you will have to re-apply or will be reconsidered for the Scholarship again the following year.

  

9. Award of the Scholarship 

The Scholarship is conditional upon the Recipient meeting the course eligibility requirements and receiving formal acceptance from Istituto Marangoni of a place on the relevant course. 

If the Recipient is an EU or International Student, the Scholarship offer is also conditional on a valid visa being obtained from UK Visa and Immigration.  The visa must commence and the student must enter the UK by the course start date. The visa must also be valid for duration of the course.  “EU or International Student” means a student who requires a Tier 4 visa to study in the United Kingdom.  

Istituto Marangoni reserves the right to withdraw the Scholarship offer if the Recipient does not meet these conditions in section 8.  

 

10. Acceptance of the Scholarship award 

Istituto Marangoni will notify the Recipient in writing that they have been selected, by way of an award letter enclosing a copy of these Scholarship Terms.  The “Scholarship Agreement” will comprise the Recipient’s application form, the award letter and these Scholarship Terms.  It is a condition of accepting the Scholarship that the Recipient accepts the terms of the Scholarship Agreement.  

The Recipient must confirm their acceptance by returning a signed copy of the award letter within 15 working days of receiving it, after which time the Scholarship offer will expire.  Istituto Marangoni reserves the right to award the Scholarship to the reserve applicant if the offer is declined or expires.

 

11. Publicity

If the Recipient opts into the publicity statement on the application form, Istituto Marangoni may publish the Recipient’s profile and news of the Scholarship award on its website and related platforms. 

By accepting the Scholarship Terms, the Recipient agrees to assist with and participate in a reasonable number of open days and public appearances for the purpose of promoting the Istituto Marangoni and partnership programme with Dezeen. Istituto Marangoni may also request marketing assistance from time to time, which may include photographic images, video recordings, audio recordings or quotes from the Recipient, contribution to prospectuses, school publications, annual reports, newsletters, course literature, advertisements, social media and websites.  The Recipient hereby assigns to Istituto Marangoni any intellectual property and other rights that are created as part of this promotional role. 

 

12. Termination 

The Scholarship Agreement is dependent on the continuation of the contract for study between Istituto Marangoni and the Recipient (the “Study Contract”).  If the Study Contract is terminated for any reason, the Scholarship Agreement shall terminate automatically.   Istituto Marangoni may terminate the Scholarship Agreement on [one month’s] written notice at any time if the Recipient is in material breach of the Scholarship Agreement.  

Istituto Marangoni may also terminate the Scholarship Agreement [immediately] on written notice at any time if: 

  • the Recipient decides to discontinue studying the course that the Scholarship is associated with;
  • other than in exceptional circumstances, if the Recipient takes a break from studying or defers the completion of their course for any reason; or
  • Istituto Marangoni is of the reasonable opinion that the Recipient has made an intentional misrepresentation in his or her application for the Scholarship.

 

13. Information on the treatment of personal data

These Scholarship Terms should be read in conjunction with 'Terms of Use and Privacy' notice.

 

14. General 

Istituto Marangoni may update these Scholarship Terms from time to time.  Applicants should make sure that they read the current version before submitting an application.
